L-citrulline: An Amino Acid Proven to Enhance Performance and Reduce Fatigue.

Another great ingredient that we use in our PowerAmp Rapid Hydration drink, designed to help you improve sports performance, is L-citrulline.

Here is why we use it…

L-citrulline is an amino acid found in the watermelon and studied for several years by sports performance researchers.  The majority of studies have shown that nitric oxide (NO) improves athletic performance in a range of athletes. This is because nitric oxide is a potent regulator of blood flow, muscle energy metabolism, and mitochondrial respiration during exercise.  L-citrulline plays a crucial role in the production of nitric oxide in the body.  Those that consume L-citrulline before and during training can benefit in a dose-dependent manner.

In 2020, researchers from the College of Medicine, Korea University, in Seoul, Korea, undertook an extensive systematic review of all the previously published scientific and clinical papers on the athletic performance of L-citrulline in a research paper called a meta-analysis where they concluded  Citrulline was effective for reducing fatigue as measured by an athlete’s perceived level of exertion (RPE) and for reducing muscle soreness.

The researchers suggested that Citrulline would be especially beneficial for power and strength athletes as it allowed for better recovery and then subsequently allowed an athlete to train at their desired intensity level.
